Just In Time For Christmas: Hermès Launches Second Exclusive Jewelry Collection, Haute Bijouterie

Today, Hermès launches its second Haute Bijouterie collection, a range of fine jewelry designed by Hermès's artistic director, Pierre Hardy. The line is inspired by the iconic features of the Kelly, the Birkin, and other accessories regularly on the ultimate wish list.


"Pierre wanted to pay tribute to our leather bags," Hermès's director of jewelry, Laurence Reulet, explained. "Because Hermès bags are considered like real jewels all over the world…"

Among the collection highlights are several Kelly bracelets crafted with precious metals and gems, and fastened with the famous flat lock of the Kelly bag (which was named for Princess Grace of Monaco, who used to shield her baby bump from paparazzi with the purse).

The Haute Bijouterie collection debuts tonight at Hermès's Madison Avenue boutique in NYC, where 49 pieces will go on display until December 8, 2012.

Balenciaga Denies New Designer Rumors, Updates Coming Soon

UPDATE: Sorry folks, Christopher Kane has not been confirmed as the new creative director at Balenciaga. The brand has not made a selection yet but will announce their choice in the next two or three weeks, according to Elle.fr. That said, it will still probably be Kane, just no official word yet. (The Cut)

The fashion world was decently shocked when celebrated designer Nicolas Ghesquière seemed to suddenly just up and leave his post at Balenciaga, the Spanish label he helped revive. Rumors of hurt feelings and perceived offenses circulated — most prevalently, some suggested that Ghesquière was upset over the freedom Yves Saint Laurent gave newly-minted Hedi Slimane, latitude which the more seasoned Ghesquière doesn't have. 

Yet, it appears that — lo and behold — the search for a successor had ended, and The Cut reported that Christopher Kane will be joining the house. The Cut cites reputable French publication Nouvel Observateur for the news, even though there has been no official confirmation from Balenciaga either way. Even more importantly, what will Donatella Versace think? Does this mean the end of her and Kane's younger, more punk venture, Versus? 

Nicolas Ghesquiere officially leaves his Balenciaga post of fifteen years on November 30, 2012.

Kardashian hosted the New York City bash, making a splash in a shell and pearl-encrusted mermaid costume, and waist-length blond tresses. 
Last year, Kardashian wowed at the same Halloween party dressed as Poison Ivy. 

Canadian Labels To Show At New York Fashion Week

Two Canadian labels, Chloe comme Parris and Amanda Lew Kee, will be participating in the designer lineup for the next instalment of New York Fashion Week.

The line-up for GenArt's Fresh Faces in Fashion was revealed late last week and includes the two distinguished Canadian names, who will take to the runway on September 9th at Pier 57.

The GenArt program has been a long-standing showcase for up-and-coming designers who are now among the top names in the industry. Rodarte, Zac Posen, Phillip Lim and Vena Cava are among those on the roster of past participants who debuted their very first runway shows at the event. 

Fashion Designer John Galliano Loses French Title Over Anti-Semitic Tirades

Paris - British fashion designer John Galliano has been stripped of the prestigious Legion d’Honneur (Legion of Honor) medal.

Signed by French President Francois Hollande, the decree follows Galliano’s conviction last year for making anti-Semitic comments on three occasions.

At trial, the court heard details of incidents in February 2011, at La Perle cafe in Marais, where Galliano hurled insults at Jewish museum curator Geraldine Bloch, and also at her South African companion - before police came to break up the argument.
In a third incident, the court viewed amateur video of Galliano declaring a love for Adolf Hitler and ­referring to concentration camps.

Galliano was charged and given suspended fines totaling 6,000 euros ($7,500), and in the process lost his job as artistic director of fashion house Dior.

All 101 Pairs From Nicholas Kirkwood's Pre-Spring 2013 Collection

If I had to choose, I'd always splurge on a new pair of shoes. Shoes are better than clothes, better than my best accessory. A pair of heels can transform my worst frump day into a chic moment. And that's why I'm so happy that Nicholas Kirkwood churned out not 30, 40, or 50 pairs of beautiful shoes for Spring [because let's face it, Fall is already here and Winter will be upon us sooner than you can say Ugg boots] but an impressive 101 cache of sandals, stilettos and pumps for his pre-Spring collection. Designed in what Refinery 29 calls "pop-baroque swirls, 3-D florals, and multimedia color blocking," this "pre-collection" is quintessential of the pop-art and post-modern art fashion trends. I don't know if I can handle what Kirkwood is actually going to produce for his full line. I imagine sheer madness and glory. In anticipation and with strict dedication, I'm looking for space in my closet to declare for a pair or two of my own.
